Many people suffer from aerophobia (fear of flying). A horrible feeling, a mixture of claustrophobia, anxiety and anguish, appears when boarding a plane. Although it is a serious problem, it can be solved or alleviated if we relax and think that flying is very safe.
In fact, flying is the safest means of transport, modern technology and strict control make plane accidents highly unlikely. According to statistics, there are many more car accidents than plane accidents.
Despite the fact that there are thousands of arguments to “calm down” a passenger who is afraid of flying, relaxing is not always easy. For these cases, it is much more recommendable to try a relaxation method, breathe slowly, not to take stimulants such as coffee before flying and try to think positive.
A recent study commissioned by Spotify establishes that slow-tempo songs, like “Someone like you” by Adele, stimulate certain parts of the brain which reduce anxiety. As Becky Spelman, research director, says, it is the appropriate song for people who are afraid of flying, even more if they breathe to the beat of the song.
